Education – Our college facility
At Jordon House the trust has built a state-of-the-art education facility. The majority of its clients have educational issues requiring assistance with literacy and numeracy.
Working in partnership with Derby College, which provides professional tutors, clients can undertake courses in literacy and numeracy in a familiar environment which is supportive and conducive to their embracing the opportunities provided. This enables them to take examinations in both subjects at a pace appropriate to individual needs and abilities.
The educational facility is called The Manna and is also used to provide learning opportunities in many of the skills for life the majority of us take for granted. Clients are helped with budgeting, personal hygiene, cooking, shopping, sexual health, emotional intelligence, first aid, writing CVs, job searching, letter writing, and official form completion.
Clients, as well as receiving one to one support, can take part in group sessions dealing with issues relating to interpersonal skills, and substance abuse.
Volunteers put classes on in the Manna introducing clients to such subjects as art, sculpture, IT and other extra curricular studies.
Other volunteers help clients enjoy sports such as archery while the project provides clients with the opportunity to use the gym and swimming facilities at West Park.
