Canaan Trust is a registered UK charity

Canaan Trust was formed in 1995. We are a Christian Charity that specialises in providing 24/7 Supported Accommodation to those who would otherwise be homeless.

We offer temporary accommodation and tailored support to single homeless people aged 16–54. Canaan Trust caters very much for the needs of the individual, residents who come to us often having a range of complex needs and issues.

The Accommodation

 We have two types of accommodation and aim to provide a homely environment for all residents, giving space for friendships to develop. Jordan House is a large 9 bedroomed property with a shared kitchen, lounge and several bathroom and toilet facilities. The House is staffed 24 hours with emergency on-call facilities.

Our other property is a shared house and has 3 bedrooms with shared lounge, kitchen and bathroom. Both properties are situated close to the town centre’s amenities – library, doctors & dentist surgeries, shops, post office, Job Centre and the local Connexions office.

Our Mission

To demonstrate God’s love for humanity in a practical, Christian way to those in need and thereby help to build the Kingdom of God on earth, through sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ

In a manner that accords with its Christian ethos, Canaan Trust aims to:

  1. Provide safe temporary accommodation to people aged sixteen to fifty-four, in Erewash and surrounding counties, who would otherwise be homeless;
  2. Provide wide-ranging holistic personal support to its residents in a caring, professional and non-judgmental way;
  3. Assist residents as required, in the acquisition of life skills and financial management skills;
  4. Encourage residents and provide assistance to formal training leading to employment;
  5. Encourage residents and provide assistance to obtain more permanent accommodation;
  6. Raise public awareness of the causes of homelessness;
  7. Promote the work of Canaan Trust;

Our Mission Statement:

The Canaan Trust, an independent Christian Charity, seeks to provide healthy, safe, and secure temporary accommodation for homeless men in the Borough of Erewash, in the County of Derbyshire, and its surroundings boroughs.

The Trust is committed to transparency, to fair access, diversity, inclusion as well as fair exit from its services. It is key to the Trust’s objectives that each client is empowered and well informed. A client’s independence, individuality and diversity will be fully respected, be encouraged and supported. At all times clients will be invited to engage with and be fully consulted on the policies, procedures and day to day running of the service.

The Trust, through the support it provides, is dedicated to enabling each client to enjoy, to achieve the best he can achieve, to attain economic wellbeing, be healthy, stay safe and in all ways possible make a positive contribution.

Ultimately the Trust seeks to enable all clients to successfully move on and to enjoy and maintain themselves in a positive independent manner.
